a)The clinical laboratories test the sample specimens collected from the client and the findings help to make clinical diagnosis about his health condition. The specimens are generally the body fluids, waste products and body tissues. There are:
- Sputum
- Gastric juice
- Urine
- Facces .Bile
- Blood
- Pus
- Vomitus
- Cerebrospinal fluid
- Pleural fluid, etc.
Changes in the chemical composition in body fluid, presence of harmful microorganisms, abnormal cell counts, cell destruction etc. problems are detected by clinical laboratory tests.
b) The tissue samples from body organs are taken by biopsy or operative procedures. The structure and functions of the tissue cells are analysed.
c) Images of the body organs are photographed by X-rays, scans etc. to identify structural defects. Sound waves are also used for the same purpose. The laboratory data give us objective data, which are more reliable as long as the instruments are in good working condition and the persons doing the tests are efficient in conducting and interpreting the test results.Usually the lab forms give the normal values; if not consult a clinical methods book.
